Steve Jobs Cheese Head

0

Try Spicy Steve Nachos, iPad Thai and an Apple Cheese Plate
and pay homage to the greatest consumer electronics company of all time.

OK, I admit to being a Mac Fanboy. I've got a MacBook, an iPhone and I'll be first in line for a new iPad when it hits the shelves.

But I'm also a foodie with time on his hands. So what better way to show appreciation for my much-loved Apple products than to create a tasty sculputure in the form of Apple's venerable leader?

And with Apple's latest blockbuster product launch just around the corner, I figured that my iPad Launch Party would be the perfect place for the unveiling. You ARE going to an iPad launch party, aren't you?

Steve's piercing gaze and strong personality
make him a natural choice for bold food pairings.

I figured that cheese was a great medium for food carving, and would go well with many a tasty meal.

Mozzarella has the right consistency, is pliable when melted slightly, and its pasty-white color matches the skin tone of many a computer geek like Steve and myself.

See below for directions on how to create your own Cheese Head and for three tasty recipes that go perfectly with Steve Cheese.

Creating His Steveness

If you're going to create your own tasty CEO goodness, make sure you've got some good pictures to reference while you carve. I used the one above, along with one or two profile shots so I could get the full 3D effect.

Start out with a few of those big blocks of mozzarella cheese. You can hold them together with toothpicks or chopsticks that have been neatly clipped.

none

Next up, carve out the basic human skull shape. Don't worry too much about the details yet — just go for the large feature areas. Map out where you're going to put the eyes, nose and chin.

none

The nose and ears require detailed carving, so work on those separately. You can attach them with glue made of gobs of slightly melted cheese. In fact, as you progress, those melted cheese blobs should be applied liberally to give the head its smooth, human look.

Finally, apply the beard and hair using a flat spoon filled with ground pepper. Be careful with this step — it's a pain to remove specs of pepper once they've stuck to the cheese.

Now that your Steve is carved and ready to go, choose from one of the following three delicious recipes to complete your meal.

none
Recipe #1: Apple Cheese Plate

Ingredients

  • 1 Steve Jobs Cheese Head
  • Assorted gourmet cheeses such as brie, camembert or stilton
  • Crackers
  • Fruit

The cheese plate allows your guests to get a good look at Steve's entire head. This recipe is a great one to choose if your sculpture has few imperfections. Simply mount the head on a base of partially-melted cheese and arrange various food items around the edges.

Guests will be reluctant to take a carving out of your masterpiece, so you might have to be the first to dive in. I recommend starting with a nose or an ear — that way your guests will know you mean business. The pepper adds some zing to the somewhat-bland mozzarella.

Recipe #2: Spicy Steve Nachos Supreme

Ingredients

  • 1 Steve Jobs Cheese Head
  • Jalapenos
  • Tomatoes
  • Sour Cream
  • Olives
  • Tortilla chips

Steve has been known to be somewhat "spicy" to his underlings, especially around product launch time. What better way to celebrate this personality trait than with hot 'n spicy nachos?

The preparation is simple — line a cast-iron pot with tortilla chips and rest Steve comfortably on top. Garnish with tomatoes, jalapenos and olives.

Be sure to show off Steve to your guests at this point, since he'll be unrecognizable soon enough.

You'll want Steve to melt quickly without burning the chips, so bake covered at 375 degrees until the cheese is bubbly. Remove glasses and serve with a side of sour cream and/or salsa.

Recipe #3: iPad Thai

Ingredients

  • 1 Steve Jobs Cheese Head
  • 1 Large serving Pad Thai. Recipes found here

Tired of waiting for your new iPad? This tasty iPad Thai will tide you over, and it costs a lot less too.

Simply prepare Pad Thai the way you usually do — any variation will be fine. Arrange the noodles on an attractive platter, while leaving room for Steve in the middle. Mount Steve in a well of noodles and provide a knife for those guests who'd like a little cheese with their fusion cuisine.

More Info
I'll be serving iPad Thai at our iPad launch party — how about you? Let me know if you create your own Steve food creation. And please do get in touch if you've got any ideas for what to do with two pounds of melted, pepper-infused mozarella cheese.

Top Shell Salad

0

This is a simple top shell salad that comes with a punch. We can easily find this salad even in night spots but very often the price will be peg similarly to the price of an entree of a restaurant, even at miserable portion serving. It's a dummy dish that is extremely easy to prepare at home and extremely SHIOK to eat infront of the television in PJs.

Ingredients

* 1 canned oyster sauce topshell
* 10 or more chilli padis
* 5 shallots or small red onions
* 8-10 small limes

* 2 tablespoons fish sauce
* 2 teaspoons light soy sauce
* pinch of sugar
* 1 tablespoon
plum sauce

Directions

Drain topshell from can and cut into bite-sized pieces. Cut chilli padi and onion into small pieces and mix well with topshell in a big bowl.

Mix fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar and plum sauce together in a bowl.

Pour sauce over salad and chill in fridge for 30 minutes.

Squeeze lime juice over salad and let the flavor combine for 10 minutes before serving.

Prevent and Stop iTunes From Updating Your iPhone 3GS Firmware to 3.1.3

0

Open Cydia and search Firmware 3.1.3 App.

Open Firmware 3.1.3 App and set the followings:

Version : 3.1.3
Build: 7E18

iTunes will now detect your iPhone firmware to be the latest.

How to Downgrade iPhone 3GS from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2

0

Please note that the following guide is for jailbroken iPhone 3GS and the jailbreaking methods that I had used are in the following links:

http://eatcookshoot.blogspot.com/2010/01/how-to-jailbreak-iphone-3gs-version-312.html
http://eatcookshoot.blogspot.com/2010/01/how-to-install-cracked-apps-on-iphone.html

It really pissed me off today when my iPhone shuts off, reboots and hangs out of a sudden when I was using it. The phone was connected to my laptop as I was charging it and when I opened itunes, I realized the firmware of my iPhone was automatically updated to 3.1.3 without my consent!

I was not able to find any suitable jailbreaking methods for iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 and hence the preferred and more stable method is to downgrade the firmware back to 3.1.2.

In this latest firmware update, apple actually prevents users to perform any downgrading. Hence the usual method of shift select to restore iPhone with your selected firmware will NOT work and instead you will get an error message pop up box.

Step by step guide -

The first requirement is that Cydia has your SHSH details stored for 3.1.2. If you have opened Cydia and seen green text at the top "This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS: 3.1.2" then you can restore to 3.1.2.

My equipments:
- iPhone 3GS
- Windows XP

*Yes I know this might sound stupid if you are in a situation with a iPhone that refuse to be turned on. So just proceed if your iPhone is as hung up as mine*
You need to edit your host file to connect to Saurik's server instead of Apples to sign the 3.1.2 firmware when you restore.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users make sure the program Notepad has Administrator privileges (find Notepad, right click, select Run as Administrator).
On your Windows PC Browse C->WINDOWS->system32->drivers->etc
(if you installed Windows on a different drive letter browse to that on instead of "C")
Right click on hosts and select Open.
Choose Notepad and click OK.
Add "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" at the end of the file. Save it.
Before continuing enter restore mode. One way to do this is disconnect your phone from the computer and turn your phone off. Start iTunes. Hold the home button on your phone and plug it in. Continue holding the home button until iTunes indicates you are in restore mode.
Now you'll be at a screen similar to the one below. Hold the Shift key while you click Restore.
Browse to the 3.1.2 firmware file you downloaded earlier. Select it and click Open.

Click Restore.
iTunes will does its thing.
Once done your phone will reboot and you'll be back on 3.1.2.

Follow the jailbreaking and app hack BEFORE restoring your backup and once again enjoy your iPhone.

7 Beauty Urban Legends—Fact or Fiction?

0

Whether you first heard them from your mother or at your first slumber party, beauty urban legends cause us to buy promising skin creams and follow off-the-wall regimens. Here, we've listed seven of the most common beauty myths out there—and their answers.

1. Myth: I pluck one gray hair, multiple gray hairs will grow back in it's place.

Fiction. This isn't true — which is good because some of us were starting to worry! While plucking gray hairs won't make more grow back in its place, it's not a good habit to get into since it can damage the root.

2. Myth: Cocoa butter will help get rid of stretch marks.
Fiction. There are plenty of creams and lotions that claim to eliminate or at least minimize stretch marks. While we would love for all of these to work, stretch marks are caused by weight gain or loss, and usually can't be reversed.

3. Myth: Split ends can be reversed.
Fiction. Unfortunately, once split ends happen, the only way to get rid of them is by getting a haircut. The good news is that the right hair products can definitely make them less noticeable. Try a pomade like John Frieda's Frizz-Ease Creme Serum Overnight Repair Formula. Also, try to limit the use of heated tools and appliances (hair dryers, flat irons, etc) for shinier, healthier locks.

4. Myth: Certain cleansers can make your pores smaller.
Fiction.
Pore size is genetic, so although there are tons of products out there claiming to shrink the size of your pores, they don't work to minimize pores permanently. What they can do is temporarily make your pores appear smaller. Hey — we'll take what we can get!

5. Myth: Crossing your legs causes varicose veins.
Fiction.
There are plenty of ways to potentially develop varicose veins, but none of them are related to crossing your legs (sigh of relief). Some examples of what could causes varicose veins include genetics, obesity, trauma to the skin, etc.

6. Myth: Teeth whiteners can damage tooth enamel.
Fact.
Make sure you follow the directions line by line when using teeth whitening products. If these products are used improperly or too frequently, it can result in permanent damage to your teeth.

7. Myth: Sleeping on your back may prevent wrinkles.
Fact.
After hearing this, we're never sleeping on our sides again! The American Academy of Dermatology says that sleeping in certain positions may result in "sleep lines." After time, these lines can turn into deep-set wrinkles, so flip over and get your shut-eye on your back.

Salted Egg Yolk Prawn

0

This is one dish that I will want to whip up when I want to feel guilty...

1. Season the prawn with some pepper.
2. Coat the prawn with some corn flour.
3. Deep fry the prawn until it is cooked. Remove and set aside.
4. Mix the salted egg yolk with the prawn.
5. Melt some butter in the wok and stir fry some garlic.
6. Add in the prawn and stir fry until fragrant.

7. Season with black pepper.
8. Ready to serve.

It was finger linckin' good. Imagine fresh and succulent prawn that was evenly coated with salted egg yolk. Perhaps the only consideration was the high cholesterol content. :)
